A Strategic Move in Healthcare
Egypt-based healthtech startup Grinta is making waves in the healthcare sector with a major acquisition and fresh investment. The company has acquired Citi Clinic, a leading primary healthcare service provider in Egypt, marking a shift from a B2B pharmaceutical marketplace to a hybrid patient care model.
To fuel this transformation, Grinta secured an undisclosed funding round led by Beltone Venture Capital and Raed Ventures. This move strengthens its market position and accelerates its planned expansion into East Africa.
From B2B to Patient-Centered Care
Founded in 2021, Grinta originally focused on providing pharmacies with access to traceable pharmaceutical and medical products. The company also offered fulfillment, demand planning, and inventory financing to streamline pharmacy operations.
With the acquisition of Citi Clinic, Grinta is now directly engaging with patients, reaching over 150,000 individuals through Citi Clinic’s healthcare network. This shift aligns with a global trend where pharmaceutical distributors transition from B2B to B2C models, similar to how McKesson and Walgreens have evolved into integrated healthcare providers.
Grinta’s CEO and Co-founder, Mohamed Azab, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s future:
“The acquisition of Citi Clinic is a pivotal moment for us. It allows us to integrate online and offline services, transforming how healthcare is accessed and delivered. We’re excited about expanding our reach and impact.”
Strong Investor Confidence in Grinta
Beltone Venture Capital and Raed Ventures are backing Grinta’s ambitious vision, seeing its shift toward primary care and direct patient services as a game-changer.
Ali Mokhtar, Managing Director of Beltone Venture Capital, highlighted the importance of this pivot:
“We are thrilled to partner with Grinta as they redefine the healthcare and pharmaceutical landscape. Their strategic shift into primary care showcases their ability to anticipate and adapt to market needs.”
Meanwhile, Wael Nafee, General Partner at Raed Ventures, reiterated his confidence in Grinta’s leadership:
“We’re happy to back Grinta once again. Their innovative approach and expansion into patient care will significantly improve healthcare access across emerging markets.”
Grinta is Expanding into East Africa
As part of its expansion strategy, Grinta is:
- ✔ Exiting its B2B pharmaceutical distribution in Egypt to focus on patient care
- ✔ Extending its footprint in East Africa, exporting pharmaceuticals and forming partnerships with Egyptian manufacturers
- ✔ Building a pharmacy chain in Tanzania using a buy-and-build strategy
With these initiatives, Grinta aims to create a seamless, patient-first healthcare ecosystem that integrates digital and physical services.
A New Era in Healthcare Innovation
Grinta’s bold shift into primary care and international expansion positions it as a key player in the region’s healthcare transformation. By combining digital solutions with on-ground healthcare services, the company is set to revolutionize patient care, making quality healthcare more accessible across Egypt and East Africa.
