1001 AI, a deeptech startup based between London and Dubai, has secured $9 million in seed funding to expand its AI-native operating system across Gulf industries. The round was led by CIV, General Catalyst, and Lux Capital, with participation from global and regional investors, including Chris Ré, Amjad Masad (Replit), Amira Sajwani (DAMAC), Khalid Bin Bader Al Saud (RAED Ventures), and Hisham Al-Falih (Lean Technologies).
Building the Gulf’s First AI-Native Operating System
Founded by Bilal Abu-Ghazaleh, 1001 AI develops technology that automates decision-making and operational workflows in complex sectors such as aviation, logistics, construction, and oil & gas. These industries lose more than $10 billion annually due to inefficiencies.
The company’s AI-native operating system integrates directly with existing enterprise systems to analyse real-time data, predict bottlenecks, and automate key processes. This allows businesses to optimise critical operations such as:
- Fleet and cargo movements
- Resource allocation and scheduling
- Maintenance and infrastructure management
By using automation, 1001 AI helps organisations reduce delays, cut costs, and improve accuracy across mission-critical environments.
Strategic Dual Presence: London and Dubai
1001 AI operates from London, a leading global AI hub, and Dubai, a growing centre for innovation in the Middle East. This dual-headquartered model connects world-class AI expertise with the region’s rapid digital transformation goals.
The $9 million seed funding will support:
- Early deployments in Gulf markets, starting with construction and logistics
- Team expansion across engineering, operations, and go-to-market functions
- Infrastructure development for broader industrial applications
Investors Back Real-World AI Solutions
Investors expressed strong confidence in 1001 AI’s mission to bring AI-driven decision intelligence to the physical economy.
Deena Shakir, Partner at Lux Capital, said:
“We are bullish on AI that solves real-world problems at scale. The MENA region holds immense potential for AI that optimises airports, ports, and construction operations.”
Neeraj Arora, Managing Director at General Catalyst, added:
“1001 AI is building a decision engine that automates complexity in large-scale operations, combining world-class AI with deep regional understanding.”
Pioneering the GCC’s AI Transformation
The company plans to launch its first commercial deployment by the end of 2025, focusing initially on the construction sector. Following this rollout, 1001 AI aims to expand its reach across the GCC and global industrial markets.
The new investment marks a key milestone in building the region’s first AI-native orchestration platform designed for critical infrastructure and operations. By aligning advanced AI capabilities with regional priorities, 1001 AI is setting the foundation for a more efficient, data-driven Gulf economy.
