Morocco is aiming for a major leap in digital infrastructure as Maroc Telecom (IAM) and Inwi (Wana Corporate) announce a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to accelerate the expansion of fiber optic networks and support the nationwide rollout of 5G technology.
A Bold Move for Morocco’s Digital Future
As part of the agreement, the two telecom giants will merge parts of their passive telecom infrastructure by creating two joint ventures, each owned equally (50/50):
- FiberCo – Responsible for expanding fiber optic networks to reach 1 million connections within two years and 3 million within five years.
- TowerCo – Tasked with building 2,000 new telecom towers in three years and expanding to 6,000 towers over the next decade to support 5G deployment.
The first phase of this ambitious project comes with a budget of AED 4.4 billion ($1.2 billion) over three years, pending approval from Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT).
Strengthening Market Stability and Investment
Jassem Alzaabi, Chairman of e&, praised the partnership, stating:
