Egypt has taken a major step toward modernizing its transport infrastructure with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) granting new licenses to introduce Internet of Things (IoT) vehicle services across the country. The move is a key part of the Digital Egypt strategy, aimed at integrating smart technologies into essential public and private sectors.

The NTRA signed agreements with seven major automotive companies to deploy IoT-enabled vehicle services designed to transform driving experiences through real-time connectivity, improved safety, and enhanced efficiency.

Leading Automakers Join Egypt’s IoT Drive

The newly approved licenses were granted to:

  • General Motors (OnStar)
  • Mansour MG Automotive (IM)
  • Global Auto (BMW)
  • Alfa Ezz Elarab (Volvo, Aston Martin, Lotus, Lynk & Co)
  • EIM (Zeekr, BAIC)
  • Egyptian Automotive Trading (Audi, Skoda)
  • SMG Engineering (Porsche, Scania)

Each partner will integrate IoT platforms within their vehicles to deliver connected services such as smart navigation, live diagnostics, vehicle tracking, and emergency response capabilities.

Enhancing Connectivity and Safety

According to the NTRA, this initiative represents a critical leap toward a smarter, safer, and more efficient transport ecosystem. With IoT-enabled cars, drivers and passengers can benefit from:

  • Real-time traffic updates and navigation for smoother routes
  • Automatic emergency alerts in case of accidents or breakdowns
  • Remote vehicle monitoring and maintenance tracking
  • Integrated communication systems for enhanced road safety

These technologies not only improve driving convenience but also contribute to reducing accidents and enhancing emergency response efficiency.

Aligning with Egypt’s Digital Transformation Vision

The introduction of IoT vehicle services aligns with Egypt’s broader Digital Egypt framework, which seeks to leverage digital technologies to improve public services, promote innovation, and strengthen the national economy.

By enabling data-driven transportation, the country aims to:

  • Develop integrated smart mobility systems
  • Support urban planning and traffic management through real-time data
  • Create a connected ecosystem linking vehicles, infrastructure, and users
  • Enhance regulatory oversight while ensuring data privacy and security

The NTRA emphasized that all connected services will operate under strict compliance with Egypt’s data protection standards, ensuring user privacy and system integrity.

A Step Toward the Future of Smart Transport

The signing ceremony, attended by senior officials and industry leaders, reflects the government’s commitment to positioning Egypt as a regional leader in intelligent transport systems.

Through public-private partnerships and cutting-edge digital infrastructure, Egypt is building the foundation for a future-ready automotive ecosystem, one that combines innovation, sustainability, and safety.
