WeRide, a global trailblazer in autonomous driving technology, has officially launched operations in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone in the region’s shift toward smart and sustainable transportation. The company is introducing Robotaxi services and other self-driving solutions in key cities like Riyadh and AlUla, aligning with the kingdom’s Vision 2030 for smarter urban mobility.

What’s Rolling Out?

WeRide’s expansion brings several cutting-edge autonomous technologies to the kingdom:

  • âś… Robotaxi Pilots in Riyadh and AlUla
  • âś… Robobus Deployments in high-traffic zones
  • âś… Robosweeper S1 — the first autonomous cleaning vehicle in the region

These innovations are not just futuristic, they’re already hitting the ground. WeRide’s autonomous services are being tested in crucial locations including:

  • King Fahad Medical City
  • Aramco Residential Communities
  • The Ritz-Carlton Riyadh
  • AlUla

These deployments are focused on improving last-mile connectivity. In addition, it is aiming to support existing public transport systems like the Riyadh Metro. And not just that, it will help enhance operational efficiency in medical and residential hubs.

Robotaxi Coming to Uber Soon

WeRide isn’t doing it alone. In collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority, the company plans to launch its Robotaxi services on Uber in the coming months. Full-scale commercial operations are expected by late 2025.

This means that in the near future, users in Saudi Arabia will be able to hail self-driving cars via the Uber app, making futuristic mobility a part of everyday life.

Robosweeper S1 Cleans Up—Literally

In a regional first, WeRide has also introduced the Robosweeper S1, a fully autonomous cleaning vehicle now operating in King Fahad Medical City and Riyadh Health Cluster 2. The deployment covers an impressive 500,000 square meters, offering a real-world testbed for advanced automation.

This move highlights how autonomous technology can go beyond transportation to deliver public services more efficiently, safely, and at scale.

Part of a Bigger Global Play

Saudi Arabia is just the latest stop in WeRide’s expanding global journey. After launching the first unmanned Robotaxi trials in Abu Dhabi, the company is gearing up to scale operations to Al Maryah and Al Reem Islands.

In May 2025, WeRide and Uber jointly announced plans to roll out Robotaxi services in 15 cities worldwide over the next five years. This follows successful launches in:

  • Abu Dhabi (Dec 2024)
  • Dubai (April 2025)
