Building the Future of AI in the Kingdom

In a major step toward transforming Saudi Arabia into a regional AI powerhouse, Qualcomm Technologies and Saudi AI firm HUMAIN have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop state-of-the-art AI data centers and next-gen cloud-to-edge infrastructure.

The announcement was made during the Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh, underscoring growing collaboration between global tech giants and local innovators.

Smarter AI, closer to the edge

This partnership is designed to:

  • ✅ Develop high-performance AI data centers using Qualcomm’s leading-edge processors
  • ✅ Create hybrid AI systems that split computing between centralized cloud facilities and edge devices
  • ✅ Power real-time, low-latency applications in healthcare, industrial automation, public services, and more

At the heart of the infrastructure will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and Dragonwing processors, enabling powerful AI inference right at the edge—on devices like smartphones, sensors, and IoT systems. These technologies are ideal for applications where speed, efficiency, and privacy matter most.

Arabic-Language AI & Local Innovation

A standout feature of this initiative is the integration of HUMAIN’s Arabic Large Language Models (ALLaM)—developed with the Saudi Data and AI Authority—into the infrastructure. This move aims to:

  • ✅ Make AI tools more relevant to Arabic-speaking populations
  • ✅ Drive local content development
  • ✅ Support culturally and linguistically accurate AI experiences

This also supports Vision 2030’s broader goals to localize innovation and reduce dependence on imported technologies.

Supporting Saudi’s Chip Design Ambitions

Beyond AI data centers, Qualcomm and Saudi’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology are teaming up to establish a local chip design center.

This facility will:

  • ✅ Train a new generation of engineers and AI developers
  • ✅ Support Saudi startups in the semiconductor space
  • ✅ Advance R&D in CPU and AI accelerator development

By nurturing homegrown talent, the center aligns with the Kingdom’s vision to become self-sufficient in high-tech sectors and create jobs in future-focused industries.

Why this Qualcomm-HUMAIN understanding matters?

This deal is about more than just infrastructure—it’s about future-proofing Saudi Arabia’s digital economy. Hybrid AI systems, which combine cloud processing with edge computing, are becoming crucial for modern tech applications. They:

  • ✅ Improve performance for real-time tasks
  • ✅ Minimize latency and bandwidth strain
  • ✅ Enhance data privacy and reliability

For Qualcomm, this marks another strategic step in expanding its AI and edge computing presence in high-growth markets. For HUMAIN, it’s a leap forward in building a local AI ecosystem that’s smart, scalable, and rooted in regional needs.

Looking Ahead

While details on rollout timelines are still under wraps, the intent is clear: position Saudi Arabia as a leader in next-gen AI infrastructure—backed by global tech expertise and powered by local talent.
