QRDI is empowering SMEs Through R&D and Innovation

The Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council has launched the Small Business Innovation Grant (SBIG) to support early-stage SMEs focused on research and development (R&D). Announced during Web Summit Qatar 2025, this initiative aims to accelerate innovation, reduce investment risks, and drive economic diversification.

Why This Grant Matters

Startups and SMEs often face hurdles in developing new technologies due to high costs and market uncertainties. The SBIG program helps overcome these challenges by:

  • Reducing investment risks for R&D-driven businesses
  • Enhancing product readiness for commercialization
  • Supporting global expansion and market entry
  • Driving economic diversification by generating R&D-based revenue

“We are working to provide an incubating environment that helps innovation flourish, allowing companies to grow and contribute to the sustainable economic development of Qatar,” said Nada Al Olaqi, Senior Program Director at QRDI Council.

A Strategic Push for Innovation

The QRDI Council is committed to advancing Qatar’s innovation landscape by supporting SMEs in high-impact sectors. The SBIG grant will specifically target industries such as:

  • Healthcare – Advancing medical technologies and solutions in healthcare facilities and procedures
  • Logistics – Enhancing supply chain efficiency through innovation and new technologies
  • Smart Cities – Driving sustainable urban development for smart living
  • Creative Industries – Encouraging innovation in arts, aesthetics and media

By providing tailored funding and incentives, the grant ensures that SMEs can scale, commercialize their innovations, and compete in global markets.

QRDI grant can shape Qatar’s Future through innovation

The SBIG grant aligns with Qatar’s long-term vision to position itself as a global innovation hub. By investing in SMEs and cutting-edge R&D, the QRDI Council is fostering an ecosystem that supports sustainable economic growth and technological advancements.

With initiatives like SBIG, Qatar is setting the stage for entrepreneurs and innovators to turn ideas into real-world solutions, fueling the country’s transition into a knowledge-based economy.
