Saudi Arabia continues to build its position in the global gaming industry as Exel by Merak launches the second cohort of its fast growing accelerator program. The accelerator has selected 19 startups from more than 300 applicants. These teams now begin a focused journey that blends funding, mentorship, and hands-on development support.

Each selected startup receives a total package worth USD 300 thousand. This includes USD 150 thousand in direct cash and another USD 150 thousand in in-kind services. The in-kind support covers mentorship, legal guidance, HR services, and access to expert tools. The goal is simple. Exel wants to push early stage studios and gaming technology builders to scale faster.

A Structured Program for High Growth

The accelerator runs for 16 weeks and follows a clear structure. It starts with a virtual bootcamp that lasts two weeks. The remaining fourteen weeks take place in Riyadh through in-person sessions. The program focuses on practical learning and execution. Startups gain steady access to global mentors throughout the cycle.

The support also helps founders shape their production workflows and business strategies. Exel guides teams through design, development, and publishing plans. The program also strengthens their understanding of markets across mobile, PC, and console.

Key program features include:

  • Weekly mentorship sessions
  • Legal and HR advisory
  • Access to development and analytics tools
  • Strategy refinement workshops
  • Investor networking opportunities

A Boost for the Regional Gaming Ecosystem

Exel by Merak aims to build a strong pipeline of game studios in Saudi Arabia and the wider region. The Kingdom continues to invest in gaming as part of a broader plan to diversify its economy. The accelerator supports this vision by helping founders bring high quality games and technologies to market.

The selected cohort covers a wide range of concepts across genres and platforms. Many teams target mobile, while others build for PC and console. This diversity reflects the rapid growth of the sector and the rising interest from regional creators.

Strong Competition for Limited Spots

The selection of only 19 startups from over 300 applicants shows the rising attention the accelerator attracts. It also signals the growing confidence game developers place in Saudi Arabia’s gaming infrastructure.

Exel announced that applications for the third cohort will open in April 2026. The current cycle ends in mid February, giving teams enough time to complete the full program and prepare for the next growth stage.

What the Startups Gain

The nineteen startups now enter a phase that focuses on sharp growth and clear strategy. They receive guidance from global gaming experts and access to tools that support development and operations. The structure helps each team move from idea to execution with more confidence and speed.

Key benefits for participating teams include:

  • Strong financial support
  • Access to global mentors
  • A pathway into the Saudi gaming market
  • Direct exposure to investors and publishers
  • A structured system that boosts product quality
